Our client is building a suite of tools to help high-growth e-commerce brands grow even faster. Their focus is on creating a large suite of tools for Shopify, the go-to platform for e-commerce brands.

They are executing an ambitious strategy to build and acquire Shopify apps under a single software platform using shared resources creating the ability to cross-sell on apps within this ecosystem. This suite of tools will come in the form of a portfolio of Shopify apps that each solve a unique problem for the many innovative brands that utilize Shopify.They are also acquiring existing, high potential Shopify apps, improving them, and expanding them.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Platform Engineering Lead will work to design, implement, and build and evolve the core shared platform and infrastructure for the growing stable of apps including helping build out and leading the Platform team. Additionally, the role will involve evaluating apps that they are considering acquiring.

They are looking for individuals who will come in and show high cognitive ability, deep domain expertise, and excitement to help shape a strong team culture.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

● Build and evolve centralized services and infrastructure to power and support our suite of apps and internal tools

● Create reusable tools and libraries to be used across apps and identify opportunities for centralizing common functionality

● Manage infrastructure migration and improvement of our acquired apps

● Monitor health and performance of our platform, proposing improvements and optimizations

● Research and introduce new tools, solutions, and best practices

● Contribute to technical diligence, integration, and evaluation of potential Shopify app acquisitions

● Work with the CTO and other engineers as they join to design, implement, and scale our platform

● Have tons of Startup energy

WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

● Comp Sci or related degree

● Worked as a full-time Software, Platform Engineer, or SRE

● Led a team of other engineers, either officially or unofficially  

● Language polyglot with experience with Python, Node.js, and shell scripting

● PostgreSQL or MySQL with experience writing SQL queries and performance tuning

● Git, GitHub, & Git workflows

● CI/CD tools and pipelines

● Comfort with the Linux command line & common tools

● Docker, Kubernetes, & other modern dev/infra tools

● AWS; other cloud platforms a plus

● Shopify app development experience a plus

● Exposure to other languages, frameworks, and stacks a plus

● Excellent English communication & problem-solving skills are a must
